And the store’s manager says it is not the first time it’s happened to their stores.
“He drove around to check to see if there's anybody in the store,” says Rick Holt who manages the Top Stop Convenience Store in Salt Lake City.
Holt was reviewing the surveillance video that showed the driver of the white pickup truck drive around the store located at 1306 South and 2100 East.
It was about four in the morning and the store was closed for business.
“He drives back around and then he pulls right back through the doors,” he says.
The surveillance video showed the pickup truck ramming through the glass front doors. Holt says the alarm went off and so did light sensors but it apparently didn’t phase the burglar.
“He comes through and puts a strap through the ATM,” says Holt.
The suspect is covered from head to toe. His face is covered with a stocking hat. After wrapping the ATM with a cord he gets back in the pickup truck.
“(He) yanks it right out through the front,” says Holt.
And the ATM with 800 dollars in cash disappears.
“It's disheartening to tell you the truth, very disheartening,” he says.
Holt estimates the burglar caused about ten thousand dollars in damage. He also says it’s the third time it’s happened to their Top Stop stores in Salt Lake City.
“The way he walks and the stuff that he's wearing, it's the same guy,” Holt says.
The other two burglars happened at the Top Stop at 1300 South and Foothills Boulevard. He says the burglar made off with the ATM in a van.
“The van was stolen,” he says. “He dumped it and the ATM at the Wal-Mart parking lot.”
Holt says the burglar uses stolen vehicles, like the Dodge Ram pickup truck in this latest theft.
“Oh I think he knows what he's doing and how long it takes to do it so he doesn't get caught,” says Holt. If you have any information about these burglaries contact Salt Lake City Police at 801-799-3000.
