Young mechanics compete for title of best in state

SANDY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) — The top dogs of high school mechanics competed to represent Utah in a nationwide automotive competition.
SANDY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) — The top dogs of high school mechanics competed to represent Utah in a nationwide automotive competition.

10 teams of 2, representing 10 high schools, were given the tools to find and fix 10 problems in a 2013 Ford Focus SE. They had to do it right and do it within 90 minutes.

All to find out, who is the best in Utah.

Provo High's Parker Thomas and Jimmy Hicken took home first prize. They will represent Utah in a national competition this summer.

The Utah Ford/AAA Auto Skills Contest hands out about $9 million in scholarships each year and helps make young mechanics aware of the opportunities that await them.
