Susan Powell's sister-in-law talks about unsuccessful search

SALT LAKE CITY, (ABC 4 Utah) – The unsuccessful search for Susan Cox Powell in Oregon is a painful reminder of the past for sister-in-law Jennifer Graves.
SALT LAKE CITY, (ABC 4 Utah) – The unsuccessful search for Susan Cox Powell in Oregon is a painful reminder of the past for sister-in-law Jennifer Graves.

“There was some hope,” Graves said. “Perhaps her body would be there and we could find some closure with that, but that’s not going to happen.”

Graves distanced herself from her brother Josh Powell when wife Susan went missing in December 2009.

After nearly three days, West Valley City Police called of their search for Susan on Wednesday. Detectives only found animal bones on rural land outside Salem, Oregon. The private property housed a farm that Powell’s relatives once rented.

Jennifer said any developments take her straight back to a dark place and they put her on an emotional roller coaster.

“There’s hope then there’s despair,” she said. “You go back and forth with every new thing that comes out.”

Officials in West Valley City said the case may soon be closed if no new credible leads develop.

Jennifer is okay with that. She said after four years she has been able to let go of the thought of finding Susan.

“I don't have to know where her body is because I know where her spirit is,” she added. “It's in Heaven with Charlie and Braden.”
