It was a car accident that changed their family. The family shared on their blog, "Early in the morning hours of November 20, 2012, the world lost a beautiful and kind young woman, Madeline Rose Morris, due to traumatic head injuries experienced during a car accident. Her older brother, Taylor Morris, was the driver, and his fiancée, Bailee Brinkerhoff, was in the passenger seat, while Madeline ("Madie") occupied the seat behind Taylor. Seven hours previous to the accident, Taylor had proposed to Bailee, and in an excited state of being, they decided to drive to Arizona from Utah that night to spend Thanksgiving with Bailee's family."
Madie's sister Rachelle writes on the family's blog, "Just a few seconds can change the course of a family's history. As I write these words, I choke back my tears, because Madeline Rose is my younger sister, and Taylor is my younger brother."
Rachelle continued, "As an outlet for my personal grief, I turned to running, a hobby that Madie and I had shared together. Ten days before the accident, I had run my first half marathon, and Madie and I had decided we would run a half marathon together in Washington DC in March 2013. In late January, I officially registered for the race, and two months later I ran it in honor of my sister."
That first race has now lead to a new initiative, RoseRunners. While the family cannot bring Madie back into their lives, they can let her spirit live on through running and raising funds for those in need.
