Scott Mackintosh felt like he had tried everything he could think of to get his daughter to understand she doesn't have to wear immodest clothing to be accepted. He was getting short on ideas, finally one night he decided, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
Do you remember the 1980's Nair commercial – “We wear short shorts”? Those girls wore short shorts, so did Mackintosh's 19-year-old daughter Myley. This Lehi father said he wished she dressed more modestly.
"We had many arguments and discussions about it, and it wasn't going anywhere except into a fight every time," said Scott Mackintosh, father.
So three weeks ago, when Myley refused to change for a family outing of dinner and miniature golf, he took a new approach, and decided to sport some short shorts of his own to send his message home.
"When that's not getting through desperate times call for desperate measures," said Mackintosh.
Those measures were pretty short. It took Myley by surprise.
"I don’t know, I thought it was really funny at first and I immediately started taking pictures," said Myley Mackintosh, daughter.
And so did everyone else.
"And everybody was laughing, they were gawking, they were pointing, if I ever looked at anybody there was always somebody pointing and looking," said Scott Mackintosh.
Although the shorts may have embarrassed Dad more than Myley, he got his message across.
"It definitely showed me so much how my Dad cares about it and so it was really cool because I'll never forget it. Now I know how much my Dad loves me and really cares about it," said Myley Mackintosh.
Myley said her Dad definitely proved his point. She hasn't drastically changed the clothes she wears, but she said when she gets the dressed in the morning she now stops and thinks about her dad before she does.
