Kaysville man shot seven times claims he died and went to heaven

KAYSVILLE, Utah (ABC 4 News) – Steve Bailey will never forget the day he died. On September 21, 2011 he was shot several times by 47-year-old Johnny Rosales, a tenant at the apartments where Bailey worked as a maintenance man.
KAYSVILLE, Utah (ABC 4 News) – Steve Bailey will never forget the day he died. On September 21, 2011 he was shot several times by 47-year-old Johnny Rosales, a tenant at the apartments where Bailey worked as a maintenance man.

“He (Rosales) was standing there on the balcony yelling at a lady in the corner there,” explained Bailey.

Bailey says that’s when he stepped in and tried to defuse the situation. “I said, ‘I tell you what, why don’t I call the office and let them deal with it?’ and he said, ‘No, we’re going to deal with it right now,’ and he shot me,” said Bailey.

Not once, not twice, Bailey was shot seven times.

“I was shot through the heart, and in the lungs, the kidney, the stomach, the groin, the arm and my spine,” explained Bailey.

Doctors aren’t certain, but Bailey believes he was first shot through his heart and that was the shot that killed him.

“He shot me once and then I died, and I heard God speak to me and he said, ‘I’m going to heal you.’”

One of the first officers on the scene, Davis County Sheriff’s Deputy John Nicholas pulled Bailey to safety and started chest compressions. “I honestly did not think he was going to make it,” said Deputy Nicholas.

Bailey recalls, “One minute I was standing there, the next minute I was in heaven. He showed me all these people and they were these bodies, but they looked to me like they were covered with gold, a thin layer of gold, and they were praying for me.”

Those prayers seemed to have worked because only four months after spending a month in the hospital and having several surgeries, Bailey is back home changing the lives of others through his story of faith.

Deputy Nicholas said, “Something, something acted on his behalf. I don’t know what it was, but it was definitely a miracle.”

Rosales was shot to death that day. Two men, a neighbor and another apartment employee, happened to be standing near Bailey when he was shot. Both men had guns on them and both opened fire, shooting and killing Rosales.

Kaysville police are still investigating
