For the first time, the race held in southwest Utah has been designated as the official Ironman 70.3 U.S. Pro Championship. It is one of five top 70.3 championship destinations internationally. More than 90 pros, world champions and Olympic athletes will participate.
In 2013, the St. George Ironman race was converted from a full distance into a 70.3. The Ironman U.S. Pro Championship is one of five regional races including Australia, New Zealand (Asian-Pacific), Panama (South American) and Germany (Europe).
The race will consist of a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike and 13.1-mile run. Known for its breathtaking course, the Ironman U.S. Pro Championship incorporates many of the same features as last year’s full-distance event. Participants will swim one-loop in the Sand Hollow Reservoir. The elite athletes will then ride around the Sand Hollow Reservoir, and through the towns of Hurricane, Washington and St. George including a four-mile climb through scenic Snow Canyon State Park. The final leg is a run with challenging hills up Red Hills Parkway, through Red Cliff Desert Reserve and finishing at Town Square.
