Hospital worker accused of sexual assault

LOGAN, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Police in Logan say a hospital caregiver was caught performing a sexual act on an on unconscious patient.
LOGAN, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Police in Logan say a hospital caregiver was caught performing a sexual act on an on unconscious patient.

According to Logan Police Chief Gary Jensen, officers were dispatched to 1225 West 200 North on a report of an intoxicated man who refused to leave a residence.

Jensen said officers took the man into custody and then arranged to have an ambulance crew take him to Logan Regional Hospital where hospital staff were unable to wake the intoxicated man.

After arrival at the hospital, Jensen said the intoxicated man was left in an exam room behind a curtain as officers wrote a report, waiting for him to awake.

Jensen said one of the officers returned a while later to check on the man and pulled the curtain back to discover 46-year-old Hal Weston, a hospital caregiver, performing a sexual act on the unconscious man as he lay on the hospital bed.

Jensen said the officer alerted hospital security staff, and that Weston was later interviewed, arrested and booked into the Cache County Jail on suspicion of forcible sodomy.

In a statement released to ABC 4 News, a Logan Regional Hospital spokesperson said:

"Logan Regional Hospital is fully committed to providing our patients with high quality, appropriate medical care. The alleged incident goes against our core values and inappropriate actions towards any patient are not tolerated or acceptable. The employee has been terminated. A thorough investigation of the incident is being conducted by Logan City Police Department and the hospital is fully cooperating."
