Bergstrom hoping to earn starting job with Raiders

NAPA, Calif. (ABC 4 Sports) - Former Utah offensive lineman Tony Bergstrom is hoping to earn a starting job with the Oakland Raiders.
NAPA, Calif. (ABC 4 Sports) - It's been a world of difference at this year's Oakland Raiders training camp for former University of Utah offensive lineman Tony Bergstrom.

"It's a huge difference," said Bergstrom, a 3rd round draft pick in 2012. "Just being able to know what you're coming into and having an idea of what's going on. You get to come in with a little more confidence. You're not tip-toeing around trying to figure it out. Knowing the guys really well is kind of nice too."

After playing in nine games with one start as a rookie, Bergstrom, a first-team all-Pac-12 performer for the Utes in 2012, has been impressive in training camp so far. He's competing with Luke Nix for the starting left guard position.

"Last year, the goals were a lot less," Bergstrom said. "You know, just make the team and try and be a contributor. This year, they're a little more lofty."

While he tries to earn a starting job, Bergstrom is just happy he isn't a rookie anymore.

"Not being a rookie is great," Bergstrom said with a laugh. "You don't have to deal with all the rookie garbage and buying snacks for the team, so that's kind of nice."
