Bees stay alive with 9-0 win over Omaha

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Sports) - The Salt Lake Bees stave off elimination, blowing out Omaha 9-0 at Spring Mobile Ballpark.
SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Sports) - Jarrett Grube tossed a complete game two-hit shutout to lead the Salt Lake Bees to a 9-0 win over the Omaha Storm Chasers on Friday night in Game 3 of the Pacific Coast League Championship Series. With the win, the Bees trail Omaha two-games-to-one in the best-of-five series. Game 4 will be played at 6:35 p.m. on Saturday, September 14 at Spring Mobile Ballpark.

“(Jarrett) Grube started the game off really well,” said Bees manager Keith Johnson. “It seemed like as the game progressed he got stronger and stronger. He found his fastball late. He was using it aggressively in the zone and forcing guys to swing the bat. It was a really, really good performance for him tonight.”

Grube gave up a two-out double to Brian Fletcher in the second inning and a leadoff single by Christian Colon in the first complete game shutout in Salt Lake franchise history. Grube also equaled a franchise postseason record with 11 strikeouts while walking just one.

The Bees took the lead with two runs in the second on a RBI single by Drew Heid and an error. Roberto Lopez belted a two-run homer in the fourth to make it 4-0 and Efren Navarro made it 6-0 in the sixth with a two-run single. The Bees would close out the scoring with three runs in the seventh on a run-scoring single by Rusty Ryal and another two-run single by Navarro.

“Getting hits is just as contagious as not getting hits,” said Johnson. “The guys did a great job of finding holes tonight, and we did a much better job of getting guys on base early in the innings as opposed to waiting until two outs or one out before we got a run on first base. But it’s just one game. They don’t carry over, so tomorrow we know we’ve got our hands full with a very good ball club, so we have to do it again.”

Navarro had two hits and four runs batted in, as he has now hit safely in all seven postseason games and has two or more hits in five of those contests. Lopez added two hits and two runs batted in and Drew Heid chipped in three hits and one RBI.
