SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – A Utah Highway Patrol Trooper is recovering after being hit by a vehicle.

The trooper was setting out a flare pattern, Monday night around 6:30 p.m., on I-15 southbound at 7600 South for a previous crash scene.

A Jeep lost control and slid into the wall on the shoulder and then into the Trooper.

The trooper was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

"This is a good reminder for motorists to keep their speeds within the posted limits and to even reduce their speeds further during inclement weather,” says Corporal Todd Johnson, spokesperson for UHP. “Also, motorists need to 'Slow Down And Move Over' whenever they see emergency vehicles ahead with their emergency equipment activated. We are very fortunate that this did not turn out worse than it did for our Trooper, due to someone's unsafe driving actions."
