Suspect arrested for shooting at cars, cops

FARMINGTON, Utah. (ABC 4 News) – Farmington police open fire on a suspect after he leads them on a chase and shoots at them.

Around 5:00 p.m. Davis County dispatch received several calls about a driver of a grey sedan shooting at a white pickup truck around Legacy Parkway in Farmington.

Two police officers responding to the call saw the vehicle exiting Legacy Parkway. The 37-year-old Hispanic driver of the gray sedan refused to pull over for the officers and a high-speed chase ensued through quiet neighborhoods in Farmington.

The chase ended around 650 W State St in Farmington, where the suspect allegedly shot at the officers. Officers returned fire, but no one was hit. The suspect was taken to the hospital and later released.

Police have identified the suspect as Marco Antonio Guizar.. They say the car he was driving was a rental car with Texas plates, but that the suspect had several known addresses along the Wasatch front.

Farmington Police Chief Wayne Hansen speculated that the shooting may be tied to the earlier shooting on I-215 Tuesday. According to Hansen, there was also an intended target for the shooting.

The Farmington Officer involved in the shooting has been put on administrative leave while the investigation continues.

Guizar is facing charges of failure to respond to an officer’s signal, interference with arresting officer, no insurance on his motor vehicle, 3 counts of aggravated assault, possession of a dangerous weapon, attempted criminal homicide. He is also being help for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
