Lake Powell boating victims identified

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Utah) - A South Jordan family was involved in a boating accident that took the life of a mother and her daughter.

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Utah) - A South Jordan woman is dead, and two other are missing after a tragic boat crash on Lake Powell on Thursday.

The accident happened when the boat carrying the three women crashed with a house boat.

Authorities say Marilyn Jackman died and they have recovered her body. They say Marilyn’s husband, Adrian Jackman, was driving the boat and got distracted.

“At that point in time the vessel closed in on another one and got well within that 150 feet and the collision occurred”, says Ty Hunter with the Utah State Parks.

Officials say they are still searching for Marilyn’s daughter, 22-year-old Jessica Jackman, and 29-year-old Valerie Bradshaw. Both Jessica Jackman and Bradshaw got thrown out of the boat as the crash happened.

“We have two persons missing at this point in time,” says Hunter. “That’s going to be up to the folks down there to make that decision whether that’s going to continue with the search or become a recovery.”

The news of the boating accident stunned the Jackmans’ neighbors in South Jordan.

“It's a huge tragedy, a huge loss,” says their neighbor Rick Wahlquist. “Marilyn and Adrian (Jackman), their whole family are great people, very service oriented.”

Lake Powell authorities called off the search Friday afternoon due to technical problems with the equipment.
