SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Hundreds of animals in need of a home finally got one. The Super Pet Adoption at Utah State Fairpark had a record number of adoptions this weekend.

“We needed another friend for our pit-lab mix we just couldn't find one with anyone of the rescues in town and thought this would be a perfect opportunity,” said Amanda Storrs from Spanish Fork.

“We've got 17 different shelters and rescue groups that come throughout the state to get their animals together for this event,” said Temma Martin, Best Friend's Animal Society.

The event started off with 800 animals looking for owners. By weekend's end 500 of them were adopted setting a record.

“I think it's one of the favorite events of the staff,” said Lydia Beuning, Best Friend's Animal Society. “It's the most that we can actually see our good work happen, we can see our animals find a forever home. It's something everyone gets excited about and it's really heart warming.”

All of the animals go to their new homes spayed or neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped.

Of the animals that didn't get adopted out this weekend, their profiles are placed here.
