Flu complications kill Timpview High athlete

PROVO, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Complications from the flu killed a 16-year-old boy from Timpview High School named Parker Allred.
PROVO, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Complications from the flu killed a 16-year-old Provo boy Saturday morning.

Parker Allred became sick January 25.  His sister Madison Allred reports Parker also caught pneumonia and a staff infection flared in his body.

He was flown to Primary Children’s Medical Center after his body went into cardiac arrest.  His kidneys and other vital organs also shut down.  He eventually died in his hospital bed Saturday morning at 3:00 a.m.

Parker was nicknamed the "blue eyed boy" because of his piercing blue eyes.

“This morning when I found out I was pretty much in disbelief. It’s shock now,” said classmate Keaton Grunander.

He was a fierce water polo and football athlete, but also the one who would look out for others.  Classmates and teachers say he would lift others when they were down.

“When he comes into a classroom he has this calming effect on kids.  I’ve had very few students like Parker,” teacher Cassidy Baker.

Classmates, parents and school leaders gathered in the High School commons area Saturday night to honor the “blue eyed boy” with blue ribbons.

They tied thousands of ribbons and placed inside and outside the school.

His sister Madison Allred appeared calm and composed as she talked with ABC 4 News Saturday night.  She says it’s hard to comprehend her brother dying from a sickness. “He was so strong and so healthy,” she said.

“Parker man and all your family we love you very much,  Parkers been a great example to me through friendship and through football.  Love you man we’re going to miss you,” said classmate Devin Kaufusi.

Parker leaves behind two sisters, a brother and his parents.

His family is asking for prayers at this difficult time.

His viewing and funeral are at the Latter-day Saint Edgemont South State Center in Provo.

The viewing is February 8 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Parker's funeral is February 9 from 11:00 a.m. to noon.
