Construction crews were using a floor stripping agent to remove mastic from a floor which previously had tiles. A construction worker plugged in a cord which arced and ignited several fires in the cafeteria area.
Twenty firefighters from Ogden City and Weber were on the scene.
Upon arrival, crews reported heavy smoke coming from the cafeteria on the north side of the building. Five student custodians were inside the school and exited on their own when they heard the fire alarm.
The fire was put out and building cleared. Building is being ventilated to remove smoke.
The fire is under investigation by the Ogden City Fire Marshall and the State Fire Marshal.
Damage was contained to the cafeteria and is considered extensive. Damage is estimated at $50,000.
