Made4Utah: Ecoscraps

SANDY, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) - Americans produce over 200 million tons of trash every year. That's enough to fill a major league football stadium twice a day. But a solution has come from a Made4Utah company: Ecoscraps.
SANDY, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) - Americans produce over 200 million tons of trash every year. That's enough to fill a major league football stadium twice a day. But a solution has come from a Made4Utah company: Ecoscraps.

Ecoscraps CMO Lance Archibald explained the problem with food waste in the land fill pretty simple, "It is bad for the environment."

A problem Ecoscraps believes they have solved.

It all started with a little over eating at a Provo buffet. A few BYU students noticed a problem: wasted food! They noticed how much food was just being thrown away so they decided, we have to be able to do something.

They started thinking about pre consumer food waste.

Archibald said, "They started dumpster diving and experimenting with food waste and came up with a composting recipe that makes great compost."

Now Ecoscraps picks up leftovers from your favorite grocers and takes them to their Utah County facility. Once the garbage arrives they grind it up and put it in piles to compost. They add in their special composting minerals and after a few months, they are left with a beautiful garden product.

Ecoscraps is a company Made4Utah working to ease the problems in our land fills and produce a usable product.

Archibald said, "Not only are we producing a great product, but it is great for the environment.
