15-year-old Kayden Troff will be competing in the largest chess event in the U.S. along with 23 other chess aficionados. Dubbed "Utah's Mozart of Chess," Troff learned to play at age three and is the current Under 14 World Youth Chess Champion. Troff is invited to the U. S. Chess Championships for the first time this year. Pending a strong performance at the tournament, his scores could put him closer to achieving the title of American Grandmaster (the highest rank a chess player can receive).
The Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis is hosting the U.S. Chess Championship tournament for the fifth year in a row. It is the most prestigious chess event to take place in the U.S. each year.
