It may seem like a strange outfit choice, but for Madi and Jaime their shirt had a lot to say.
Madi Palmer said, "The shirt represents our message, bringing awareness to Human Trafficking in Utah and America."
Jaime Heiner explained the human level, you might not realize explaining the "inner turmoil for the victims with what is going on."
Human trafficking and the exploitation of women might not seem like a big topic for Utah, but it definitely it.
Madi explained, "It does happen absolutely everywhere. If you don't see it you just are not looking hard enough."
Salt Lake City is one of the biggest hubs in the west. And 1 in 4 women are sexually assaulted by the time they are 18.
Jaime is one of them. She explained, "I was sexually abused when I was 15."
She can't talk much about her situation, it is still working its way through the court system, but she can tell you the feelings associated with abuse.
Jaime said, "People who sexually abuse children, it is not an accident."
She explained feeling useless, until she gained the strength to speak up.
Jaime did come forward and has joined with Madi and others in the Backyard Broadcast group to send a message to everyone, teaching of the abuse and hoping to ensure it stops.
Madi said, "I really think awareness breeds prevention, so the more people I can tell about this - I feel I can keep myself and my friend's safe."
