The Salt Lake City Walk is the Arthritis Foundation's annual, signature event that raises funds and increases awareness to fight arthritis, one of our nation's leading causes of disability.
The Walk is also an integral part of the "Let's Move Together" campaign designed to promote exercise and an active lifestyle among those afflicted with arthritis.
This year's Walk Honoree is Ashlyn Vought, a precocious 9-year-old who has been afflicted with Juvenile Arthritis since the age of 18 months. Her story is one of courage and inspiration, as she refuses to let this debilitating disease take over her life. www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yoYSd5gprk.
The Walk helps raise funds for research, health education and government advocacy efforts to improve the lives of those living with arthritis. More than 419,000 Utahns are affected by Arthritis, including more than 2,000 children. Arthritis is the most common cause of disability in the United States? More children suffer from Juvenile Arthritis than Muscular Dystrophy, Cerebral Palsy and Juvenile Diabetes combined.
Everyone that wants to join is encouraged to participate individually, or by forming an Arthritis Walk Team. Walkers will receive exciting incentive prizes to reward their fundraising efforts.
Other activities and perks include:
• This week only, every walker will have a chance to win a free flight anywhere JetBlue Airlines flies for every $25 in donations they gather;
• T-shirts will be awarded to all participants who raise $100 or more;
• Jimmy John's is providing free sandwiches to all participants;
