The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program collects new, unwrapped toys each year, and distributes those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children throughout the community.
Utahns are encouraged to donate new, unwrapped, age-appropriate toys at Utah Fresh Markets and other locations where official Toys for Tots collection bins are on display.
The Marines are asking for a minimum of 90,000 toys to be distributed to over 18,000 children in need this holiday season.
Last year, over 72,300 toys were collected and given to over 16,700 of Utah’s needy children.
The Toys for Tots Program has been in operation for the past 65 years, and the past 35 years in Utah.
The program is intended to benefit children between the ages of 0-13. For information on what to donate, visit the ABC 4 Toys for Tots page.
Although most locations have closed the application process, there are a few that are still accepting applications from needy families.
Go to toysfortots.org and select your state, then your county of residence to see if applications are still being accepted in your area. No emails or phone calls will be accepted, everyone seeking assistance must do so online.
ABC 4 encourages Utahns to help needy children throughout Utah experience the joy of Christmas by participating in the Toys for Tots program.
Fort Douglas U.S. Marines will be at Fresh Market in Sandy (1860 East 9400 South) to personally accept toy donations for Toys for Tots on Wednesday, November 28 between 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
The Marines will be joined by mascots from the 4 Utah professional teams, including the Utah Jazz Bear, Real Salt Lake's Leo, Grizzlies' Grizzby and The Blaze's Torch.
The mascots will try and get people to donate themed sports toys and there will be a Ford truck on site. The goal will be to fill the truck during this event.
