11-year-old impaled by rod declared brain dead

OGDEN, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Nichole "Nikki" Clark, who was impaled by a blind rod over the weekend, was declared brain dead by doctors today.
OGDEN, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Nichole "Nikki" Clark, who was impaled by a rod that holds blinds together, was taken off life support Monday evening.

"It's the decision we had to make ultimately because she wasn't going to come back to us," Tommy Clark, Nikki's uncle, said. "The only thing we could do is let her go so she could be happy."

On Saturday, the 11-year-old was walking up the stairs of her parents home with the rod when she fell and landed on it.  The rod impaled her through the chest and out the back of her neck.  Nikki managed to pull the rod out herself, but when she did that, it caused even more damage to her internal organs.  She bled out within two minutes.

Clark was taken to Mckay-Dee Hospital in Ogden where doctors immediately performed surgery on her.  Following surgery, the plan was to fly Nikki to Primary Children's Medical Center but her condition worsened and she could not be moved.

Her family is now facing a large medical bill that continues to grow and they're asking for your help.  An account for donations in Nikki's name has been set up at U.S. Bank.  The account is under the name "Nichole Gail Clark."  The account number is 153152943285 at US Bank.
