Rustic Apple Surprise

10-inch Dutch oven

8 coals on bottom

14-15 coals on top

350 degrees

Ingredients

1/2 cup brown sugar

5-6 Fuji apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced

1/2 cup milk

2 eggs

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1 cup sugar

1/2 cup Bisquick

2 tablespoons butter, softened

Topping

1 cup Bisquick

1/3 cup brown sugar

3 tablespoons cold butter

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 cup chopped pecans

Directions

Sprinkle brown sugar evenly into Dutch oven. Add the apples.

Place milk, eggs, cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, Bisquick, and butter in a blender and thoroughly combine. Pour over apples and stir.

Topping

In a medium bowl, mix together the Bisquick, brown sugar, cinnamon and butter until crumbly. Fold in chopped pecans. Spread this mixture over the apples.

Cover and bake, using 6-7 coals underneath the oven and 14-15 coals on top, for 25-30 minutes. This is really tasty when served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
