An anonymous tip led officers to an apartment near 1300 West Walnut in Rose Park. Officers found small amounts of methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine, pepper spray, ammunition, a rifle and a police sweater.
“It has all the insignia and indication that it is a West Jordan Police sweater issued to patrolmen,” Sgt. Mike Hamideh with Salt Lake police said.
Mario Lovato, 32, was arrested and charged with drug possession with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm by a restricted person and possession of stolen property.
Neighbors are shocked by the drug activity in their area. However, Angie Garcia, Lovato’s girlfriend, said the amounts of drugs were small and not intended for sale.
“He does have a record, yes,” Garcia said. “But since he’s been out of prison he’s been trying to get his life together and get things straightened out.”
Lovato was convicted on felony drug charges in 2005.
West Jordan Police said they do not have any reports of officers’ uniforms being lost or stolen. They are assisting Salt Lake Police in the investigation.
