Couple claims group attacked them in downtown SLC

SALT LAKE (ABC 4 News) - A Salt Lake couple said they were attacked by a group of people Friday night in the downtown area.
SALT LAKE (ABC 4 News) - A Salt Lake couple said they were attacked by a group of people Friday night in the downtown area.

The attack allegedly happened near 300 South and State Street.

“There were so many people standing around like it was free fight to watch, like some gladiator fight,” Dale, a victim of the attack said.

His wife, Ashley, said they were with friends trying to cross the street when a group of men, unprovoked, attacked them.

She said one of their friends was punched in the face, which sparked a group fight between both parties. She watched her friend get brutally beaten.

“While he was down they started stomping on his face and stomping on his chest, kicking him and punching him,” Ashley recalled.

She said bystanders just watched the action instead of calling for help. The fight went on for several minutes before Dale called police.

“I feel like people leaving the bar were just adding to the chaos,” she added.

Dale injured his right arm. Ashley is recovering from a black eye. She said their friends were admitted to the hospital, one of which is still being treated for injuries.

The couple said they did nothing to provoke the fight and hope someone comes forward with information on who was behind the attack.

“We were so brutally attacked and so outnumbered for no reason,” she said.

A police report was filed with Salt Lake PD. Investigators are looking into the alleged incident. Anyone with information is asked to call SLCPD.
