Davis Romney Fotu, a 33-year-old man from Riverton, was recently released from the Salt Lake County Jail one day before the murders. Unified Police said Fotu is a person of interest in the case.
Fotu has a long criminal history. ABC 4 News learned Fotu has been arrested over a dozen times since 1998.
On February 9 Fotu was arrested for aggravated assault and retaliation against a victim after he allegedly beat the owner of the Colonial Village Motel near 1500 Main Street in Salt Lake City.
The owner of the Colonial Village told ABC 4 News he feels Fotu needs to be off the streets. The owner wished to remain anonymous.
“This guy is an animal,” the owner said.
The owner said Fotu and another man trespassed on motel property. He told the men to leave, but they refused. He said Fotu held a gun to his head.
“He didn’t like the fact that I asked him to leave the property,” the motel owner said. “By doing that I disrespected him.”
The owner was beaten to the ground and kicked in the face. A tenant at the motel called police.
Fotu was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail. Records show Fotu was released on a $15,000 bond on February 11.
The next day three people were killed in a Midvale home. The victims, Omar Paul Jarman, Shontay Nichole Young, and Danielle Lucero were killed.
Unified Police said they are still trying to figure out how Fotu is connected to the murders.
