It happened at 2912 South and 2670 West. The family of 6 woke up before 1 AM to find their family car was on fire.
“We were all asleep in house of course and we heard an explosion. It shook our house,” said homeowner and mother Cindy Salina. “My husband is a really light sleeper so he woke up and ran and he saw our vehicle was engulfed in flames.”
The blaze spread to the families work truck.
“Our family car is burnt to the ground. My husbands work pick up, the inside is burnt. The cab is burnt, [the] box, totaled,” she added.
Early Thursday morning West Valley City’s Battalion Chief Chris Beichner said, “it is kind of unusual that for a car just to ignite.”
The mother and father frantically tried to get the 4 children out of the home.
“The house was starting to fill up with smoke already and I told my husband go back in get the dog,” said Salina.
The dog, Cucuy, was inside his cage when the fire began to burn in the home. The father got him out but he will be licking his burns for awhile.
The family was able to remove some pictures, a couple of files but they have pretty much lost everything in this fire.
