OREM, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Neighbors who knew a cosmetic surgeon and his girlfriend say their relationship was unhealthy and they are not surprised by their deaths.

Doctor Joseph Berg and Lucy Schwartz were found dead by a relative inside an Orem home Monday.

A former relative of Berg says the doctors troubles started long ago.

According to Berg's attorney, he was allegedly addicted to pain killers. Berg pled guilty to tying up his girlfriend and beating her inside a closet last year.

Berg was sentenced to jail in March 2012. He was released four days ago.

Police say they did not find any injuries on the couple at the time of their deaths.

Autopsies ans toxicology results will hopefully shed light on how the two died.

Many neighbors say the relationship between Berg and Schwartz was a mess. They call the incident a tragedy.

"It is such a nice neighborhood," Richard Prestwich said. "It's really sad."
