Kim Johnson - FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup

Had a blast at my first ever FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup! I checked out nights one and two and got to see the first mogul round and the aerials.

This event brings the world's best freestyle skiers together in a qualifying event for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games. The athletes compete on the same runs used during the 2002 Olympic Winter Games.

Moguls—what talent! Not only do these guys and gals have to race down the bumps with speed but they have to perform and land two jumps with perfection. The event leaves you dumbfounded!

Aerials—watched with awe! If you enjoy watching the aerials on TV during the winter Olympics… you can guess it’s even better in person. A serious nail bitter. Unfortunately I witnessed a crash that left one freestyler being carried out by medics. It’s a dangerous sport and hard not to have respect for those who chose to do it for our entertainment.

This marks the 15th year of international and elite competitions hosted at Deer Valley, including the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, two World Championships and 12 World Cups. What a great resort to host the World Cup. DV always knows how to roll out the red carpet for the athletes and their support staff, spectators and press.

The World Cup concludes tonight with a second mogul competition. Fireworks after. If you want to check it out, it’s free to the public.
